A new partnership between the government and South Korea’s HINENI Ltd will see the construction of a local state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the production of electric batteries and related components. Uganda is taking a significant step in developing its automotive industry. The initiative aligns with Kiira Motors Corporation’s vision to transform Uganda’s automotive landscape.
This partnership aims to strengthen Uganda’s manufacturing capacity, specifically electric vehicle components. By prioritizing local production, the initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported car parts, accelerating Uganda’s shift towards green energy and fostering sustainable industrial growth.
President Museveni highlighted the potential benefits of expanding local manufacturing, particularly in the automotive sector. He emphasized that this move would not only create jobs but also reduce import costs and help the country move closer to self-reliance. The proposed electric battery facility is an important element in this strategy. It has the potential to position Uganda as a future hub for electric vehicle production in Africa.
Kiira Motors Corporation, a leader in Uganda’s push for electric mobility, plans to integrate these locally manufactured batteries in their production lines. This aligns with the government’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and industrial development. The collaboration with HINENI Ltd. is testament to Uganda’s commitment to adopting green energy solutions.
