E-Bus Xpress has introduced a new era of public transportation in Uganda, with the launch of an all-electric, cashless mass transit system. The service, which began in Jinja City, is set to transform the way people travel both within cities and between regions. By offering eco-friendly, efficient, and modern transport options, E-Bus Xpress aims to set a global standard for sustainable mobility.
The electric buses feature integrated e-payment systems, allowing passengers to enjoy a seamless, cashless travel experience. The company emphasized the convenience of the service, noting that it ensures safe, reliable, and timely rides for both passengers and goods. With real-time arrival and departure schedules, the E-Bus Xpress service eliminates the delays often associated with traditional public transport.
E-Bus Xpress is designed to align with smart city infrastructure, making travel more predictable and efficient. With precise schedules and the ability to track buses in real-time, passengers are assured of punctual arrivals, significantly reducing travel time. As the company highlights, the days of waiting for delayed buses are over, offering travelers a modern, hassle-free experience.
The service initially operates along the Jinja-Iganga route, showcasing Uganda’s growing commitment to electric mobility. The buses are designed for comfort, featuring spacious seating and standing areas, as well as air conditioning. E-Bus Xpress also promises a quieter and smoother ride, offering passengers a premium travel experience with zero emissions.
The buses used by E-Bus Xpress are the Kayoola EVS model, developed by Kiira Motors. These electric vehicles contribute to a cleaner environment by producing no harmful emissions, supporting Uganda’s broader shift toward sustainable transportation solutions. Kiira Motors, which leads the development of electric mobility in the country, has positioned the Kayoola EVS as a key component of the “green” revolution in public transport.
In addition to the electric buses, E-Bus Xpress has partnered with KaCyber Technologies, Uganda’s leading transport ticketing and payment platform. KaCyber’s Go card system enables passengers to pay for their fares quickly and easily with just a tap, ensuring a smooth and efficient payment process.
As the service expands, it’s expected to serve as a model for other regions, showing how modern, green transport can improve urban mobility across Africa and beyond. The introduction of the Jinja-Iganga route marks the beginning of what is hoped to be a broader shift toward sustainable, electric-powered public transport in Uganda.
