Airtel Uganda has partnered with ZTE Corporation, a leading Chinese technology firm, to improve access to affordable smartphones and expand internet penetration across Uganda. The initiative is designed to empower Ugandans by enhancing their engagement with digital technologies to improve quality of life.
According to the 2024 Market Report by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), smartphone ownership in Uganda has grown significantly, with over 16.7 million users by June. This highlights a rising demand for internet-enabled devices. The demand is driven by the increasing need for connectivity in both personal and professional activities.

As part of the collaboration, Airtel customers purchasing the ZTE Nubia smartphone will receive 15GB of free data valid for three months and enjoy exclusive discounts on data bundles when using Airtel Money for payments.

He noted that ZTE has already established a presence in 20 African countries, including Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia. “Our focus is on expanding further across the continent and delivering products tailored to meet local needs. We are committed to staying and growing in the African market,” he remarked.
ZTE’s Nubia smartphone series is designed to transform the user experience. It supports 4G connectivity and subsidized data plans on the Airtel network. These smartphones, priced from as low as Ush 400,000, are available at all authorized Airtel Uganda service centers and mobile dealers nationwide.
