According to recent tech news, Apple is working on a slimmer iPhone. This is a shift from the form factor that iPhones have traditionally been famous for. The development is expected to involve a “major redesign” for the iPhone, set to launch with the iPhone 17 in September 2025. The project, internally referred to as D23, is anticipated to be more expensive than the current iPhone Pro Max, which is priced at $1,200. This project is expected to introduce a “thinner” iPhone, potentially named the “iPhone 17 Slim.”
Five people familiar with the project have said that the iPhone 17 Slim camera position will be changed. It will be repositioned to the top center of the device instead of the top left corner. The device is also expected to have a display measuring between 6.12 inches and 6.69 inches.
These changes are part of Apple’s strategy to stay competitive in a market increasingly dominated by rivals like Samsung and Huawei. The International Data Corporation reported that in the first quarter of 2024, Samsung held the largest share of the smartphone market at 20.8%, with Apple following at 17.3%.
In an effort to increase their market share, Apple is also planning to discontinue the iPhone Plus and introduce a more affordable iPhone, a successor to the iPhone SE, in the spring of 2025. This new model is expected to attract price-sensitive customers, allowing Apple to reach a broader audience.
In addition to the iPhone’s redesign, Apple has announced the launch of a new iPad Pro, equipped with a new chip designed for artificial intelligence computing. This move is seen as part of Apple’s efforts to stay competitive in the tech industry, competing with other Big Tech companies in the race to lead in AI technology.
According to information, the redesign is intended to inject new life into the iPhone, which is facing strong competition. The iPhone remains Apple’s most popular product, but its sales have seen a decline. In the second quarter of the fiscal year, iPhone sales fell by 10.5%, generating $45.96 billion.
The full iPhone 16 lineup is still expected to be announced this September. However, the iPhone 17’s development suggests that Apple is looking ahead. The company’s focus is creating a device that stands out in a crowded market.
The forthcoming iPhone 17 Slim, with its unique features and competitive pricing, could help Apple regain its position as the market leader. This potential revamp demonstrates Apple’s commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving demands of its customers.
