Benton Technologies Company, a prominent manufacturer based in Shenzen, China, specializing in the manufacture of laptop computers, tablets, desktops and educational software has announced a significant investment of $30M in an assembly and production plant of one million laptops and tablets for Uganda’s primary and secondary schools.
The decision follows a productive meeting between company officials led by Mr. Li Kaifu & Mr. Victor Zhang and a delegation from the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID), led by Odrek Rwabwogo. The delegation visited China as part of efforts to explore opportunities for Ugandan agro-industrial products in the Chinese market and attract investments in food and mineral processing within Uganda.
During discussions, Mr Li Kaifu expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the opportunity to support Uganda’s vision, as articulated by President Museveni, of adding value to mineral products through local assembly. He emphasized the importance of collaboration to achieve this shared goal.
Rwabwogo urged Benton Technologies to consider a comprehensive value proposition for Uganda incorporating energy solutions for the laptops to village schools, internet accessibility to facilitate studies for studies and repairs and maintenance online.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of establishing a robust distribution network to ensure timely delivery of products to students and schools, with a focus on maintaining optimal functionality for a minimum of six years.
