Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a subsidiary of Cassava Technologies, has announced a major upgrade to its 1,300 km fibre route connecting Mombasa on Kenya’s east coast to Busia, Uganda. This upgrade increases multi-terabit data capacity and strengthens the network’s resilience. Digital infrastructure in East Africa will benefit from improved connectivity, offering more reliable services across the region.
The enhanced network promises 99.99% service uptime, ensuring Liquid remains at the forefront of the region’s digital transformation. With greater data capacity, the upgrade will boost high-speed internet traffic, further supporting business growth and driving various economic activities.
Adil El Youssefi, CEO of Liquid Intelligent Technologies for the Rest of Africa, explained that this expansion is key to achieving a more connected Africa. It aligns with the company’s mission to provide reliable, high-capacity infrastructure. It will also significantly support critical sectors in the region. He noted that this investment is crucial for Kenya’s national digital goals, including the expansion of digital highways and the modernization of public services.
As Kenya continues to evolve as a central digital hub in East Africa, Mombasa remains a critical point for several undersea cable providers. The new fibre infrastructure complements Liquid’s existing networks, further reinforcing the region’s internet connectivity. The upgraded fibre route, built using cutting-edge technology, is capable of handling multiple terabits of data. It offers scalability for a range of users, from retail and enterprise to wholesale customers. This expansion also positions Liquid to cater to international tech companies looking to tap into Africa’s emerging markets.
Beyond increasing network capacity, the new infrastructure enhances the stability of both terrestrial and undersea connections. It guarantees uninterrupted service even during potential outages. Liquid also monitors this route closely to ensure consistent performance. With over 110,000 km of fibre laid across Africa, Liquid remains focused on accelerating digital transformation across the continent, fostering economic growth, and encouraging innovation.
