Dr. Shamim Nabuuma, a Ugandan entrepreneur, has developed KETI, a multifunction AI health tool. KETI interprets various medical records, including lab tests, prescription notes, and discharge summaries. It translates medical jargon into more understandable language.

Similar to ChatGPT, the AI tool can read handwritten medical documents and supports multiple languages, such as Swahili, French, Arabic, and English. KETI also answers health-related questions, offering comprehensive support.
“KETI lets users type or upload medical documents, which it analyzes and provides clear explanations in the user’s native language,” Dr. Nabuuma said.

She emphasized that KETI is designed to make medical information more understandable and accessible and is not a replacement for medical doctors. It is an aid for many who struggle with understanding medical terminology.
“Patients deserve to understand the treatments they receive or plan to undergo. Providing them with accurate, easy-to-understand information upholds this fundamental right,” she added.

Dr. Nabuuma, believes KETI will significantly benefit the healthcare sector. “We collaborate closely with rural healthcare facilities and understand the challenges patients face in remembering doctors’ instructions during virtual consultations. KETI AI Medical Records Interpreter, accessible via web and WhatsApp, simplifies this process for both urban and rural communities,” she said.

KETI is user-friendly, allowing patients to interpret handwritten notes or prescriptions by consulting the chatbot. “Consider the scenario of a virtual consultation where you forget the details by the time you get home. With KETI, you can upload the provided documents, and the bot will deliver a detailed explanation. This ensures you recall the essential information,” she explained.

The new tool empowers patients, aiding them in understanding their health and the care they receive. “Only 22% of patients in developing countries understand medical terminology, complicating healthcare navigation,” she highlighted.
Dr. Nabuuma, a breast cancer survivor, set out to become a doctor and help women who needed essential cancer screening services. In 2017, she founded Chil Artificial Intelligence Lab, which offers mobile cancer screening. The Artificial Intelligence Lab uses AI-guided e-oncology services to detect cervical and breast cancer.
