Empowering Ugandans with Sustainable Energy: Aceleron’s Revolutionary Mobile Battery Servicing Container

As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, the demand for batteries to power electric vehicles and renewable energy sources is growing at a rapid pace. With the potential to generate millions of tonnes of battery waste in the coming years, Aceleron, a leading energy solutions provider, has taken an innovative approach to tackle this issue with its circular-economy battery technology.

Aceleron has designed the world’s most sustainable lithium battery packs, which are serviceable, upgradable, and recyclable. Unlike traditional batteries, Aceleron’s batteries can be taken apart right down to a single cell for repair, maintenance, and upgrade, ensuring that a single part failure does not result in the entire product being wasted. This serviceable battery model offers a key opportunity for locals to be trained in maintaining and servicing battery packs wherever they are in the world, creating jobs and reducing travel emissions.

One of Aceleron’s flagship products, the Offgen, is an all-in-one energy storage solution with a hybrid inverter and a modular unit, available in 5.6 kWh, 8.4 kWh, and 11.2 kWh options. The Offgen stands out from other products in the market as every individual part can be removed for repair, replacement, or upgrade, extending its lifespan. Moreover, the Offgen is housed in an electrical-grade cabinet that can be installed indoors or outdoors, providing the flexibility to store and use energy from onsite PV or low-tariff grid energy.

To further its commitment to a more sustainable future, Aceleron has partnered with Venture Engineering, Total Group, and The Shell Foundation to create the BATLAB, a self-sustaining battery servicing container powered entirely by solar PV. The first BATLAB was recently deployed in the Bidibidi refugee settlement in Uganda, run by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

The BATLAB provides local staff with the opportunity to safely repurpose products with batteries that no longer work into battery packs that can meet the energy needs of the local population. The BATLAB contains all the components to build, repair, upgrade, and monitor every battery in one place throughout its entire lifecycle.

This revolutionary mobile battery servicing container has the potential to play a crucial role in underpinning a wider net-zero transition, particularly in emerging markets where access to hi-tech facilities and equipment is limited. The BATLAB provides an exciting opportunity for Ugandans to be empowered with sustainable energy, creating jobs, supporting livelihoods, and providing a self-sustaining solution for the country’s energy needs.

As Dr Amrit Chandan, co-founder of Aceleron, states, “The BATLAB blueprint project has the potential to become a key piece of the wider battery puzzle and play a significant role in creating a more sustainable future for Ugandans.”
